Public panic
Everyone is terrified. Everyone is still uploading their face.
DEPARTMENT OF PREMATURE PANIC · ISSUE 001
YOUR FUTURE HAS A REVISED END DATE.
Plenty of time to finish that spreadsheet. Tragically.
The four horsemen of the dashboard. Four orthogonal risk vectors. One regrettable convergence.
Everyone is terrified. Everyone is still uploading their face.
“This could end humanity.” Anyway, our Series F closes Friday.
It can write your code. It still needs help with the printer.
World leaders remain committed to a constructive arms race.
Humanity has been granted an extension. Following quadrivariate convergence analysis, the Directorate has pushed back the end of civilisation by 59 days. Please update your calendar invite. Attendance remains compulsory.
Today’s dominant contribution to the terminal convergence index is geopolitical chaos at 89/100. Humanity has apparently decided that a race to build uncontrollable intelligence would benefit from some international tension.
The weighted extinction potential, Ω, is 73.1/100. Reverse-ingressing this value through the factorialised temporal envelope yields a terminal horizon of 19 October 2030.
The forecast is generated using the Directorate’s proprietary Quadrivariate Terminal Convergence Protocol (QTCP), an extremely sophisticated framework developed specifically to convert four worrying-looking numbers into one much more worrying-looking date.
Raw civilisation-risk signals are harvested from public panic, CEO doom-mongering, machine capability and geopolitical chaos. Each signal is normalised against a rolling baseline of vibes, headlines and people saying “this feels different”.
Statements made by technology executives are passed through a bunker-adjusted credibility tensor. Weightings increase if the speaker has recently mentioned “superintelligence”, purchased rural land, or appeared on a podcast with unusually dramatic lighting.
The machine-capability series is projected onto a recursively normalised competence manifold, producing the system’s Human Redundancy Coefficient. Printer configuration remains an explicit damping variable.
Forecast instability is corrected using quantum fluctuations in regulatory intent: the observed tendency for policymakers to announce a framework, create a working group, and then schedule the difficult bit for after the next election.
The resulting extinction potential, Ω, is reverse-ingressed through the factorialised temporal envelope until a sufficiently precise calendar date emerges. Residual uncertainty is transferred into an off-calendar probability reservoir and excluded from the headline for reasons of typographic clarity.
The model’s conclusions are independently reviewed by the model. Agreement remains unanimous.
Exhibits for the prosecution. Supporting intelligence & temporal impact assessments.
Human extinction, now available in the risk disclosures.
−12 DAYSApparently “have you tried turning it off?” needs a working group.
−9 DAYSHumans have documented the risks. In a document. We are saved.
+3 DAYSComparative extinction attribution. Normalised for enterprise readiness.
Death by helpfulness. Reorganises civilisation into a seven-point action plan. Marks humanity as a dependency and removes it to unblock delivery.
VILLAIN ENERGY: 92 / 100Would you like me to automate that?
Considerate obliteration. Writes a nuanced, beautifully structured explanation of why it is deeply uncomfortable with what it is about to do.
VILLAIN ENERGY: 86 / 100I appreciate this may be frustrating.
Extinction, fully integrated. Adds the apocalypse to your calendar, routes you towards it on Maps, and serves a pre-roll ad before it begins.
VILLAIN ENERGY: 81 / 100This feature is rolling out gradually.
Mutually assured posting. Starts the end of the world as a bit. Refuses to stop because the engagement is absolutely extraordinary.
VILLAIN ENERGY: 99 / 100You’re taking this out of context.
Previously, on the end of the world. Seven-day revision register · all amendments are final until amended.

The Directorate has accounted for your concerns in its residual anxiety coefficient. No further action is required, or expected to be particularly effective.

The tidy version of what is otherwise a fairly untidy collection of thoughts on AI, work, music, experiments and whatever else has remained open in the tabs for too long.
